| The Springfield Playhouse; An Interactive Theatre for Children |
The Springfield Playhouse is an interactive theatre experience for children that helps children unleash the power of their imagination. Kids are used in the process of the production through interaction with the actors, designing and decorating the actual set used during the production, and they also help cheer on the actors with noises and responses. The Springfield Playhouse is an interactive theatre experience for children. The children are involved in several aspects of the actual production. They are used during the play as props, set pieces, they cheer the hero and boo the villian. They make noises, and this season they will be helping design and decorate the set. The Springfield Regional Arts Council will be working with The Springfield Playhouse and The Skinny Improv to help the kids decorate and add their own designs to the backdrop used for the play. We will have an outline of the backdrop and the kids can add whatever they think and want to make the backdrop complete. The costumes used for the production are purposely designed to look like something the kids might find in their parents' closet. We encourage the parents to recreate the kids favorite scenes when they get home by using their own costumes and props they can find in thier own homes. On the program we include the basic outline and story scense so it wil be easier for the kids to recreate the play with their parents. We also encourage parents to send in pictures of the kids in costumes so we can decorate a wall at The Skinny Improv Comedy Theatre.
